As practical training is an important process of a mechanic and there are seldomspecial type vehicles can be used to practice, study and development on virtualtraining system to help trainee save time and increase efficiency on practical trainingis useful and meaningful.This paper aimed at a Virtual Training System especially for Special TypeVehicle. The current situation of special type vehicles training is researched; thedevelopment and application of Virtual Reality technology is summarized; functionalrequirement of the virtual training system is discussed; advantage and disadvantage ofthe current virtual reality toolkits are researched. The general layout of the virtualtraining system is designed based on application situation and functional requirement.With consideration of common principles of human-computer interface andcircumstances of training system, the principles of virtual training system interface isstudied and developed.The development process is exemplified by the wheel virtual training system.This system is consisted of the disassemble demonstration module, assembledemonstration module, disassemble training module, assemble training module, faultdiagnosis module. Disassemble and assemble demonstration module are developed tohelp trainee learn the basic structure and disassemble or assemble sequence of thewheel. Disassemble and assemble training module are developed to help traineepractice disassemble or assemble process of the wheel. Diagnosis module isdeveloped to help trainee find problems of the wheel according to the phenomenonexhibited by the system.Virtools Physics Pack is applied in this virtual training system for a better realenvironment. Some auto programs are wrote for a better efficiency. Reality and easyusability of this virtual training system are balanced, reusability of this virtual trainingsystem is considered. This virtual training system is trialed in a noncommissioned officer academyduring a period from January to March of2014, trial usage result says that theinterface is friendly and controlled easily, this virtual training system can help traineelearn the structure of the wheel quickly, master disassemble or assemble sequence ofthe wheel easily and know the common problem of the wheel well. This virtualtraining system allows trainee comprehend the wheel before actual operation whichcould reduce unexpected loss of the equipment, enhance efficiency of the rareequipment and shorten training cycle of the training program.
