In all kinds of radar, satellite and other electronic systems, signal generator are themost common application. Its performance directly determines the index ofelectronic system, so it is also called the heart of electronic systems. The traditional signal generator device adopts special chip hardware circuit, theperformance is limited. With the rapid development of science and technology, itsperformance has been unable to keep up with the needs of modern signal measurement. The purpose of this project is to develop a high performance signal generator. Weuse the Kintex7series FPGA to control DDS chip AD9957to produce a variety of formsof signals. The design includes making a PCB board while contains four AD9957output, the board communicates with FPGA through FMC slot. FPGA write the controlword into AD9957, making AD9957work in different modes. When working in singlemode, single frequency sine wave can produce different frequencies; and when theworking frequency in orthogonal mode, the FPGA base band signal will be preparedinto AD9957by the baseband, complete orthogonal mixing with the carrier signalwithin the AD9957, produce various type of modulation signal. Signal board alsosupports two kinds of synchronization function, namely the plate and platesynchronization. The four AD9957synchronize with the fa nout buffer with which wecan achieve phase synchronization between each other. This paper mainly discusses the hardware design and the control principle of signalboard, and the use of oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer to observe and analyze thetime-domain, frequency-domain output signal, verifying the correctness of the design.
