Widely distributed and rooted in overseas Chinese communities, overseasChinese media is known as one of3pillars that support overseas Chinese communitiesand is a highlight of international journalism.North America is one of the regions where most overseas Chinese media iscreated and executed. Established on January5,1990in New York City, The ChinaPress is one of the most popular and fastest growing Chinese daily newspapers in theUnited States. As the only daily newspaper published in simplified Chinese in U.S.,The China Press has been playing an important role in introducing China to U.S.readers, promoting Chinese culture overseas, helping overseas Chinese immigrantsadapt to new world, as well as building a bridge between China and the U.S.. With thedevelopment of China and the growth of the Chinese immigrant communities withinthe U.S., The China Press has excellent expansion opportunities, while alsofacing challenges.This paper took cross-regional development of The China Press as a researchsubject. It organized and analyzed the history of Chinese media development in NorthAmerica and strategic planning theory. Through field surveys and collecting first-handinformation, as well as the latest expert opinions and data, the paper analyzed TheChina Press development projects from the aspect of the newspaper’s growth,characteristics, features, competitive advantages and problems it faces, in addition tothe growth opportunities and challenges. The paper also researched The China Presscross-regional development plan from several aspects: guiding ideology, basicprinciples, planning, layout and the overall objective. It further analyzed the fourpatterns of the cross-regional development plan of The China Press. To conclude, thepaper proposes next steps and suggestions for the project.
