The main type of highway structure is asphalt pavement in our country. The key factorsthat influence the final shape quality asphalt compaction stage is to keep the temperaturebalanced. During the construction process, the temperature segregation has become one of themain causes of early partial destruction of asphalt pavement. As a matter of fact, temperaturemeasuring is of great importance to improve the quality of road construction. This paper analysed the reason of temperature segregation on materials and construction of road.Compared with other temperature monitoring of methods, it proved that infrared camera has its ownadvantages on temperature monitoring of segregation. Based on the law of infrared radiation, it proposedthe correct operation method to use the infrared camera to monitor the temperature of asphalt mixture. Italso put forward concrete parameters of infrared camera which are appropriate for asphalt according to thedifference between temperature monitoring of mixtures and the difference between infrared cameras. It gottwo critical parameters which has effects on area and distribution of low-temper region by designing a newinfrared image segmentation system, it also extended the temperature statistics method which is mentionedin current studies from point to area. It integrated temperature difference, low-temper region anddistribution to modify the temperature segregation standard of NCAT, and it put forward a new temperaturesegregation index-TSI that can recover the defect of current temperature segregation index which is onlybased on temperature difference; In order to making tests in laboratories, it designed indoor tests tosimulate temperature segregation of road; It got TSI from infrared imagery by indoor tests. The resultshowed that different infrared imageries can be differed by TSI. The tests also proved that TSI can be usedin evaluating the feasibility of construction.
