Many manufacturing enterprises have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)system along with the comprehensive development of information technology. Meanwhile, theshop floor has achieved manufacturing execution system (MES) in different degree. Rely onthe implement of the two systems,the enterprise gets the control and optimization both interms of resource planning and production execution,helps achieve enterprise resourceintegration, includes enterprise business flow, information flow and cash flow. It brings manyeconomic benefits for company operation.Due to the ERP system cannot analyze directly the bottlenecks in production lines, not toimprove and control the quality of the product. However, as an important part of enterpriseinformation management,MES have evolved to fill the communication gap between theEnterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) and the control systems to run equipment on theplant floor. It ensures two-way communication between the planning level and the controllinglevel, and provides consistency and seamless information flow throughout the wholeproduction’s process. It’s helpful for enterprise decision makers to make decisions within theproduction information of the real-time monitoring workshop, improves the ability of agileproduct of company. In this way, there are a large number of information exchanges betweenMES system and SAP ERP solution. SAP timely dispatches work orders to MES. Meanwhile,production data and materials data on the consumption which were collected accurately andeffectively from the shop floor by MES. These data were passed to SAP. SAP BI based on datawhich from MES system to analysis workshop production efficiency effectively, and providethe result to management decision-making level. Therefore, it’s the key of the actualproduction application to how to effectively integrate SAP and MES.In the author’s company as an example, These problems this paper will examine are:(1)discusses the shortcomings of product traceability function in MES system in discretemanufacturing industry and its improved method;(2) analysis carefully the advantages anddisadvantages of various techniques which exchange data between SAP system and the external information system;(3) present a solution how to use SAP BI to carry out data miningand analysis base-on a large number of data which from MES system, according to theanalyzing results to improve the workshop production scheduling process, improve productquality.Through this article research results, it is helpful to reconstruct the existing MES system,achieves the goal that the full information sharing between MES and SAP, and use of SAP BIfunction at the same time, combining with the MES field data, analyses the workshopproduction efficiency, reuse analysis results to optimize production workshop. Since theimplementation of the scheme to realize the information sharing between the two systems, andsolved the problem of Information Island, the implementation results show that the system hasthe very good integration, easy to reconstruct and secondary development, the systemarchitecture is good.
