Virtual scene roaming is a significant branch of virtual reality (VR) technology, which isdeveloping so rapidly in industries such as construction, tourism, real estate, aerospace and soon. In the application of virtual roaming, the technology of collision detection is essential toavoid unrealistic phenomenon such as penetration so that the scene can be shown true to lifelikeness.For the scene which is large-scale and complex, the models in the scene are so many and socomplex that will occurred redundant or missing collision detection, lower efficient for thesystem, user’s feeling down for the application, then that unable to-meet the requirements ofreal-time from the users if there is no good collision detection algorithm for the application.Therefore, how to guarantee instantaneity for large-scale scene has become one of the currenthot pots and difficulties in collision detection.On the basis of comprehensive understanding of current collision detection, this papermade analysis for general collision detection in virtual roaming. Based on the existing problemsin the application of virtual roaming, the paper proposed some improved methods whichincludes the design of framework for collision detection algorithm, the optimization accelerationcombine with hardware and software, parallel optimization and so on.The innovation and research in this paper mainly includes as followed: use an architectureof collision detection for virtual roaming system, the architecture divided collision detection forthree stages which includes rough filter, fine filter and intersection; the paper proposed combineOBB bounding box with KD-tree ray tracing algorithm to detect collision; the paper proposedbetter use of computer hardware and software, processing image data with SIMD technology,use the heterogeneous model combine CPU and GPU; Use multi-thread technique for betterparallel technology in virtual roaming specific applications; this paper also use simplifyingquery process by caching mechanism so that make the system runs more smoothly. The paperalso did some research on collision response for the application of virtual scene roaming.The algorithm in this paper is validated in Unity3D, the experiment have shown that themethod proposed can improve the problems of collision detection such as low efficiency forlarge-scale virtual roaming, that can achieve better accurate and real-time collision detection inthe application of virtual roaming.
