Visualization technology is a rising science in recent years. The virtual reality technology is widely applied in all aspects now. The essay of the virtual campus roaming system is based on campus landscape constructing model, which adopts multiform virtual roaming and let people experience an all-round campus life and a humanized virtual campus.This essay explores the technologies related to virtual reality. a set of virtual campus roaming system has been developed with OpenGl and VC scheme. At that time, actual time roaming and part interactive function came true.Visual three-dimensional terrain through DEM and LOD arithmetic makes this system more lifestyle. The three-dimensional terrain in this system came from multiresolution LOD terrain of the quadtree structure.The vivid three-dimensional terrain was structured with loading orthophoto as texture. In the designing of this system, the collision detection algorithm is adopted. Since this system run on internet, test speed and memory footprint should be considered firstly. For this reason, comparing the 8-DOP, Oriented Bounding Box(OBB), Axis Alignment Bounding Box(AABB), and Sphere Geometry Bounding Volume Algorithm, finally has been adopted; the smallest surrounded sphere was obtained by using the iteration of the ball. Under the perspective projection mode, automatic roaming has been realized, and we can have a control of roaming to accelerate, decelerate, and view adjustment. On the premise of the collision test technology, the system runs in a free path. This essay also puts forward the deficiencies of the current system and looked into the distance to the next step.
