With the rapid development of embedded system and network technology, the real-timemonitoring system based on embedded and network technology has become the main force ofthe monitoring system. At the same time, the real-time monitoring system is also increasinglydeveloping towards the direction of network, intelligence and energy saving, which doomed itwill have wide prospect of development.The design use the S3C2440processor as the core, using a USB camera combinedtemperature sensors, humidity sensors, gas sensors work together to build a comprehensive,multi-purpose, low-cost, high-performance real-time monitoring system. The system canrealize the acquisition and monitoring real-time data on temperature, humidity, smokemonitoring sites and video by visiting the Web browser, and automatically for some exceptionalarm. The system reduces the burden of monitoring personnel, but also to reduce the numberof monitoring personnel, mainly used in the places which require higher monitoring levels,such as factory, warehouses.This paper makes a brief introduction on the development of embedded systems and realtime monitoring system, designs overall function of the system according to the developmentdirection, on this basis, choose S3C2440chip microprocessor as the hardware core of thissystem. Combined with its peripheral modules and system application modules, constitute thehardware platform of monitoring system. Then through the analysis of the current mainstreamembedded operating system, decided to use the embedded Linux as the operating system forthe design, and does production and transplantation of the bootloader on Linux system, theLinux kernel and root file system, according to the hardware platform.In the software, the system designs the temperature detection module, humidity detectionmodule, smoke detection module, alarm module and USB camera module, and has carried onthe key design to the acquisition and compression of video data. In addition, this designadopts the Boa server, through the B/S mode, to realize the purpose of remote monitoring forthe customer. This system adopting the idea of modularization provides a convenient maintenance and upgrade in the future.
