Museum is the institute to collect, promote and study relics and specimens. It belongs toclass one cultural public welfare enterprises and is an important part of China’s scientific andcultural industries.After the Twelfth-five-year Plan, China’s museum industry has been developing fast.Though many museums are founded in various places, there are many problems among them.Adopting the methods of references study, comparison and analysis, and study with caseanalysis, this thesis made a specific research of Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong.Based on the researching the factors of museum development, it systematically discusses theproblems during the development of Maritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong and presentsome measures and suggestions to carry a healthy and sustainable development by using NewPublic Management Theory and studying the successful experience of other museums.There are six chapters in total. The first chapter describes the background, significanceand aim of this research and introduces related research theories of domestic and foreigncountries. The second chapter describes the development of museum and analyses the factorsinfluencing museum development. The inspiration of New Public Management Theory tomuseum development is also brought up. The third chapter describes the basic situation ofMaritime Silk Road Museum of Guangdong and analyses the six factors that influence itsdevelopment. The fourth chapter summarizes the successful experience of difference areas bycomparing museums of United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Shanghai. The fifth chapterpresents some measures and suggestions to the development of Maritime Silk Road Museumof Guangdong. The sixth chapter summarizes the paper and introduces the expectation ofdevelopment of museum industry of China.
