As the modern processing equipment, CNC machine plays an increasing importantrole in the manufacturing. In the machining process, CNC machine requires the use ofcutting tools for processing of raw materials. The accuracy of workpiece in CNCmachining is extremely high. If the cutting tool can’t be changed timely because of toolwear or life issues, it will result in the production of failure artifacts which do not meetthe user’s requirements, which is intolerable both to the users and processors. For allthese reasons above, the efficient management of cutting tools in CNC machiningprocess is very important in terms of production efficiency of NC workshop and theprecision and accuracy of products.The paper has seriously studied the present situation of CNC machine cutting toolmanagement aspects at home and abroad. Using the existing resources of researchinstitute, the paper has successfully completed the design and implementation of thetool management module which is based on Lantian serial high-end CNC system. As asub-topic of “high-end CNC machine tools and basic manufacturing equipment” in theresearch environment of National National Engineering Research Center For High-endCNC, paper has drawn lesson from international mainstream CNC system advancedtechnology and experience in the field of machine tool cutting tool management. In theCNC machining process, tool management module is not only able to complete the toolloading, unloading, change and other basic tool management basic function, but alsocan complete the management of CNC magazine and tool monitoring. Through this toolmanagement module and the real-time monitoring on cutting tools, Lantian serialhigh-end CNC system can implement unified management of cutting tools, ensure thequality and safety of machinery workpiece and reducing scrap workpiece and CNCsystem downtime so as to achieve the goal of improving CNC machine tool productionefficiency.
