With the rapid change of today’s world, the level of industrialization is becoming higher and higher. Machine tool manufacturing industry, which is the base of industrial manufacturing industry, has made astonishing progress. As a result, the design of ATC needs to be improved to meet the requirement of high speed and large scale production in today’s world.Usually, the manipulator has a vane type angling cylinder and changes tool by a reverse action, which often occurs with some problems such as oil leaking, tool cutting, and unsmooth tool changing and so on. This article aims to solve these problems by improve the way large chain-type magazine mechanical ATC changedThe gear rack type rotating hydraulic cylinder was used to replace the original rotary device. The manipulator rotary needed a torque of100Nm when the maximum weight which the manipulator grasped was30Kg. After checking the strength of the gear and rack type rotary device, the improved design scheme can meet the requirement of practical application.Finally, a model was established by Solidworks a finite element analysis of relevant components was performed. The maximum bending stress of the gear shaft and the contact strength of the surface of rack gear tooth have met the requirements, which on the contrary prove the feasibility of this idea.Through this study, some of the existing problems of manipulator were solved, and the requirements on large chain-type changing tool were achieved.
