City Landscape Structure In The View Of Communication

The city landscape is the important component in the city, is the material carrier structuring the city characteristic and also is the information carrier and the important way to communicate city culture. The city landscape mainly includes the plant landscape, the sculpture landscape, the building landscape, the electronic screens and the marking signs and so on. Among them the sculpture landscape and the plant landscape are pretty typical. They are the indispensable symbolic elements and they are taken as one kind of symbol, carrier and process, having the close relation with communication. It is a new thinking to read the sculpture landscape and the plant landscape in the view of communication.This paper gets rid of the traditional landscape study focusing on function research or the form quality and uses the communication theory——the five essential factors, McLuhan’s "the media is the message","use and satisfy" theory, Gestalt psychology, encoding and decoding theory, symbolic social interaction theory and so on to analyze the city landscape taking the sculpture landscape and the plant landscape as the example. The paper uses the research methods:information retrieval, exemplification, comparison, logical induction, synthesis and analysis and so on to elaborate the communication elements in the city landscape and re-examine the function and significance of the city landscape from the angle of the human and the human, the human and the city, the human and the society.Reading the city landscape in the view of communication not only provides a new theory foundation and mentality to develop the city landscape sustainably, comprehensively and healthily. Moreover it expands the research field and scope of the communication study, which fully manifests the practical value of communication.
