The Chronicle Of Ye Changchi

Ye Changchi was a famous scholar, bibliophile, bibliographer and a specialist inepigraphy in Late Qing and Early Republic of China. His academic achievements involvedmany domains which included bibliography, epigraphy and the Dunhuang studies. Hiswritings, such as The Poems about Bibliophiles and Their Lives, Book of the Stone Inscription,The Diary of Yuan Du Lu, were academically valuable. Many of his friends were also famousscholars, for example, Wu Dacheng, Miao Quansun, Ye Dehui and Zhang Yuanji. Theresearch of Ye Changchi’s life is very important.The Chronicle of Ye Jushang which was written by Zheng Weizhang in the1990s is thefirst and so far only chronicle about Ye Changchi’s life. Mr. Zheng’s work is compact andwell organized, contains many useful and important information. However, it still exists someshortness which needs to be promoted. First, sketchy. Second, the reference material is notenough. Third, the descriptions about Ye Changchi’s friends were not detailed enough. Fourth,some stories mentioned in this chronicle remain to be proven. Fifth, this chronicle doesn’tshow the major background. Sixth, some details in descriptions are inaccurate.Based on the previous studies, this paper is intended to research detailed annals of YeChangchi and compile a more detailed chronicle for him. The innovations include:1,collecting more comprehensive information on his life and experiences on the basis of TheChronicle of Ye Jushang.2, confirming the background of Ye Changchi’s life story, makingsome collection and verification on his intercourse, friends, and events concerned.3, gatheringand writing in the supplementary material which is discovered after The Chronicle of YeJushang has been published.
