Jiang Yong is a celebrated Confucian master in Huizhou area in Kangxi and Qianlong period in Qing dynasty. He has lots of great works and high achievements in ceremony, phonology and predestination, etc. He devotes all his life to educating and cultivating disciples who became very famous, such as Dai Zhen, Cheng Yaotian and Jin Bang. He is the representative figure of the conversion from neo-Confucianism of the Song and Ming dynasties to simple and plain learning of Qianlong and Jiaqing period and plays an important role in the history of thought and culture in Qing dynasty. However, Jiang Yong took no political activities throughout his whole life. That's to say, most of his daily life and his words and deeds was not recorded and spread. The existing first-hand material to study Jiang Yong is The Chronicle of Jiang Shenxiu, which is compiled by Jiang Jinbo and Wang Shichong in Qing dynasty and is collected in Chronicle Series of Peking Library. It is a letterpress printing version in the twelfth year of Republic of China. Jiang Jinbo is the lineal grandson of Jiang Yong and Wang Shichong is the disciple of Jiang Yong. There is no obvious errors in the chronicle but it is very short with 2500 words and the content is not full and concrete. It can not fully show the track of Jiang Yong' s academic development and the lack of derivation makes it inconvenient for people' s review. This thesis intends to prove and subjoin The Chronicle of Jiang Shenxiu on the basis of the former one. I would like to prove the content that has already existed and subjoin the content that is not very concrete. I will also do my best to clearly reflect the evolution track of Jiang Yong' s academic thought and pay particular attention to the chronicle of Jiang Yong' s works. The thesis has fully collected and sorted the available original material, including Jiang Yong' s works and relevantpedigree, the literature articles of Jiang Yong' s friends and disciples and researches of the scholars in the same period or afterwards, in order to get a better understanding of Jiang Yong' s life, academic invention, family history and companions relationship. The thesis is compiled according to historic years which are divided into three periods: Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong. There are totally 83 years from the twentieth year of Kangxi to the twenty—seventh year of Qianlong. The thesis discusses Jiang Yong' s original extraction and outlines the comments of the coetaneous people and later generations. There is an appendix at the end of the chronicle, including Jiang Yong' s works, companions' simple biography and inscription information.
