With the development of new curriculum reform, the educational concept of sports teaching in junior high school should be updated in order to meet the need of participants’ development. We need to research new teaching methods that are in accordance with the time so that can improve teaching efficiency and reach physical education goals.Under this background, the author does an experiment with the application of ladder pedagogy by document retrieval method, interview method, questionnaires method, mathematical statistics and experimental method. The objects in this experiment are 60 boys who are good at basketball in grade 8 in junior high school in MinLe county. The experiment aims to research the effect of ladder approach in sports teaching in junior high school. The author applies ladder approach to sports teaching and aims to develop students’ interest and improve teaching efficiency overall. The data which is collected, analyzed and discussed by the author proves that ladder approach is useful and effective in passing and catching basketball in junior high school. The results that offers a reference for sports teaching in basketball interest class are as follows:(1) The ladder approach is better than traditional teaching approach in enhancing students’ physical quality in basketball interest class in junior high school;(2) The ladder approach is more useful than traditional teaching approach for students to master the skill of passing and catching basketball;(3)The application of Ladder Teaching Method in junior high school basketball interest in teaching, to cultivate students practical skill than the conventional teaching method.(4) The ladder approach is more effective than traditional teaching approach in improving students’ knowledge;(5) The ladder approach is more useful than traditional teaching approach in improving students’ abilities of observation, analysis and problem solving;(6) The ladder approach is more effective than traditional teaching approach in inspiring students’ interest and strengthening their motivation.
