| Public courses are required courses for all students from colleges and universities. In colleges and universities, public courses are open for freshmen and sophomores. Public courses are not only the representative of basic requirement for senior talents, but also the essential courses for promoting the development of students.Teachers are the foundation for the development of colleges and universities. The degree of the development of colleges and universities depend on teachers’ ability and quality. Public teachers are a special group in local colleges and universities. It is very important for local colleges and universities to improve the level of public teachers as the increasingly competitive situation. The study aims to investigate the current situation of public teachers, then find out the problems and reasons existing in the public teachers’ professional development.Firstly, starting from the study of relative documents. The study expounds the relevant theory and history of public teachers’ professional development, including the connotation, the ways and influencing factors of public teachers’ professional development. Secondly, taking the theoretical study as its basis and focus on the current situation of public teachers’ professional development.The study adopts the method of questionnaire survey and in-depth interview. The study selected public teachers from A College. The resulting findings as follows:the structure of public teachers’ group is not reasonable; the overall professional development level of public teachers is not high; There is no significant difference in sex and subject, but in experience, education background and professional ranks; many professional development activities are mere formality; local colleges and universities short of enough institution and principles on professional development. The current situation of public teachers’professional development is analyzed from two dimensions, including the aspect of public teachers and local colleges and universities.According to the study conclusion, the study advances some practical strategies to promote public teachers’professional development in the respects of individualists and local colleges and universities. The strategies include that public teachers need to raise the awareness of professional development and lifelong learning; local colleges and universities should provide necessary support and help. |
