In recent years,local colleges and universities have trained a large number of high-quality talents for the development of economy and society,and become the backbone of China’s modernization drive.However,the local colleges and universities are relatively weak in capital allocation and teachers’ strength compared with other directly-affiliated universities.Most local colleges and universities pay less attention to teachers’ professional development,and there are a series of problems in teachers’ professional development.As one of the important ways to promote teachers’ professional development,peer coaching can organize various forms of activities according to the actual needs of teachers’ working process to effectively improve the quality of local university teachers.In order to play the role of local colleges and universities in the fields of talent training,scientific research and social service,this paper takes the teachers of local universities as the research object,uses literature,questionnaire and interview methods to investigate and analyze the professional development of local college teachers.It has found that there are many problems in the development of local university teachers,such as a lack of clear planning,a single teaching method for teachers,a need for improvement in professional knowledge,less scientific research results and low levels of social services.From the perspective of peer coaching,the main reasons for the problems include the weak awareness of peer coaching in college teachers,the lack of evaluation system,incentive system,guarantee system and the corresponding campus cultural atmosphere and organization.Finally,from the perspective of peer coaching,the paper puts forward some pertinent suggestions.Universities should attach importance to the use of peer coaching,create the atmosphere of group cooperative learning,improve the system of teacher evaluation,build learning community,and strengthen the cooperation between school and enterprise.In a word,the professional development of local university teachers should arouse the attention of teachers themselves and local colleges and universities.Colleges and universities should provide support for teachers’ professional development from various aspects,promote the use of peer coaching in college teachers’ groups,so as to play the role of local universities in the strategy of economic development and talent building.
