Supplementary tutoring, as a part of the students’ off-campus life, affects the students’ physical and mental development. In recent years, the supplementary tutoring in academic subjects developing fast has become a common phenomenon. The discussion, whether the supplementary tutoring in academic subjects can promote students’ achievement and the comprehensive development of is becoming more and more fiercely. Due to the pressure of senior high school entrance exam, the junior high school students have become the main force of supplementary tutoring in academic subjects. But there is great blindness for junior high school students to participate in the supplementary tutoring in academic subjects. The study shows that many students can’t reach the desired effect, and cause the performance to fall, increase students’ academic burden, even harm to students’ mental health. Therefore, it is very important that the study of junior high school students’ the supplementary tutoring in academic subjects, which makes students and their parents fully understand the current situation of supplementary tutoring in academic subjects, and makes sure the problems and causes existing in this process. This article, through the investigation finds out the existing problems, fingers out the countermeasures and helps students to scientifically evaluate their own learning needs and guilds the students to choose the tutoring in academic subjects.Based on Theory of life-long learning and the Achievement motivation theory, the study applies the literature method, questionnaire survey method and interview method respectively. Collecting, sorting and analyzing information on extracurricular tutoring uses the literature method, and then make sure the dimensions of this study. The author carries on the questionnaire survey for 300 students of three junior middle schools, aiming to master the current situation of the extracurricular tutoring. Finally the writer interviews 10 students and 10 parents to the question the questionnaire can’t involve. Through the analysis of survey result, find out the problems existing in the extracurricular tutoring in academic subjects, and put forward the feasible strategy combining education teaching theory.The paper includes six parts. The first part introduces the cause of problems, the significance of the research, the literature review domestic and abroad about the supplementary tutoring, the theoretical basis, and gives definition of related concepts about the supplementary tutoring of junior high school students. The second part states the research methods used in this study, including methods of literature review, questionnaire and interviewing. The third part is the results and analysis of the study. The fourth part analyzes the problems and causes of junior high school students to participate in extracurricular tutoring. The fifth part is the countermeasures due to the current junior middle school students to participate in the supplementary tutoring in academic subjects. The sixth part is the conclusion and reflection of the research.
