A new round of history curriculum reform of basic education gradually change the traditional teaching mode focusing on teachers, classrooms and teaching materials.Diversified teaching approaches and curriculum evaluation methods become an emphasis of the present curriculum reform. New Curriculum Standards also put some corresponding requirements on teachers’ teaching approaches, students’ learning methods and teaching evaluation mechanism and advocate that teachers are supposed to adopt diversified teaching methods in history teaching. What’s more, social investigation is one of its important aspects.According to the basic concept of history curriculum reform, the requirements of New Curriculum Standards and teaching suggestions, this article makes an inquiry into the history teaching in senior high school through social investigation. There are two purposes about carrying out the social investigation in history teaching of senior high school.One is to activate students’ inquiry appetite and learning enthusiasm and improve their comprehensive ability during the process of their inquiry learning.The other is to enhance teachers’ quality, strengthen teachers’ understanding of students and diversify evaluation methods of students’ learning process and result.This article is divided into five parts. The first part mainly introduces the selected topic reason, the research significance, the research status and the research methods.The second part, first of all, makes a corresponding overview to the concept, methods,operation steps and contents of the social investigation; Then list the contents of the social investigation with a form to refer to which can be carried out in the history textbook of senior high school according to the New Curriculum Standards. Finally state the social investigation on the significance of history teaching in senior high school from three aspects teachers, teaching and students. The third part emphaticallyanalyzes the necessity and feasibility to carry out social investigation in history teaching of senior high school, and illustrate social investigation in history teaching of senior high school is implemented and operated from New Curriculum Standards,teachers’ quality, students’ knowledge reserves and cognitive ability, and respondents.The fourth part takes Unit 5 The Changes of China’s Modern Social life in the history textbook of senior high school Compulsory П,Copyright by People’s Education Press for an example to design a practical course based on social investigation, which gradually expounds it from the establishment of investigation target to the preparation work before investigation to the implement of investigation process and evaluation of investigation result. In the evaluation of investigation result, the author evaluates students’ survey activities by introducing a great number of evaluation subjects and adopting the method of combining evaluation grades and comments to provide reference for the practice of social investigation. The last part summarizes and sums up the whole article.
