| Motivation plays an important role in the learning process, and whether studentsare motivated is closely related to their learning effect. Compared to the westerncountries, our research on demotivation is insufficient and the subjects are mainlynon-English majors in college or high school students. The empirical research basedon junior high school freshmen is rare, so this study aims to probe into some problemsabout demotivation based on junior high school freshmen. Firstly, the paper exploresfactors which demotivate junior high school freshmen, especially how family-relatedfactors the previous scholars haven’t taken into account affect English learningdemotivaion. Secondly, it explores whether there are some significant differencesbetween the county and the countryside on student demotivation. The author chosesome students in a rural middle school and a county middle school as respondents todo a questionnaire, and then used SPSS (18.0) to do statistics and make an analysis onthe data. While doing the survey, the author also interviewed teachers, students face toface, and then made a qualitative analysis on interview data to verify the results of thequestionnaire survey. Results show that the factors affecting students’ demotivationcan be divided into four main categories: factors associated with course and textbooks;student-related factors; teacher-related factors; learning-environment-related factors.Based on the above findings, The author also puts forward some suggestions forteaching: to implement the idea of " different structures for the same lesson", todevelop the interest of the textbooks, to help the students master English learningstrategies, to make use of Pygmalion effect and control task difficulty to improvestudents’ confidence, to do reflective teaching, and to work together with students tocreate a good classroom environment. |
