Motivation is one of the most important affective factors in English learning, and it is an internal force to facilitate students’ active learning. Building up the right and proper English learning motivation will be beneficial to maintaining students’ interest in English learning and enhancing them to learn English actively. At present, the domestic and foreign scholars have been quite mature in the study of learning motivation,which mainly focuses on why senior high students have motivation in English learning, what types of motivation they have, or how to inspire motivation. However, there are fewer researches on demotivation, or why lack of motivation. Demotivation concerns specific external forces that reduce or diminish the motivational basis of a behavioral intention or an ongoing action(D?rnyei, 2001). As we all know, the lack of English learning motivation can reduce the quality of English learning and teaching.As a result, combining the quantitative and qualitative methods, this thesis chooses 150 students in senior grade two of XXX senior high school in Shandong Province as research objects and makes use of questionnaires and structural interviews to study the present condition of Senior High School students’ motivation in English study, and to investigate whether their motivation has been in shortage. Provided there is demotivation, this thesis will continue studying the factors which influence the students’ demotivation and analyzing the general percentage of those factors, then finding out the main factors. What’s more, this study combines the investigation results and teaching practice, and brings up the corresponding strategies which can avoid the students’ demotivation in Senior English study, facilitating students’ English learning and improving teachers’ English instruction quality.
