Motivation is one of key factors which affects the efficiency of foreign language learning, and also attracts the extensive attention of the researchers in the foreign language area. There are fruitful study achievements in foreign language learning motivation abroad and at home, underscoring the importance of learning motivation to foreign language learning. However, motivation of learners is not changeless. Students may be demotivated due to internal and external factors. Just as what Dornyei (2005) put forward, during the language learning process, learners may be affected not only by the positive factors but also by some negative factors. These negative factors can be the demotivating factors in language learning. Although some scholars have found this phenomenon, demotivation is still a new topic for discussion in the area of motivation in foreign language learning. In the studies of recent years on demotivation in foreign language learning, most of the subjects are college students, few studied on senior high school students. The subjects in this research are taken from Tiandong senior high school of Baise and it studies the current situation of English learning demotivation and influencing factors of senior high school students in Guangxi counties. There are four research questions:Firstly, what's the general situation of demotivation in English learning of senior high school students in Guangxi county? Secondly, what are the primary factors that cause the senior high school students in Guangxi county's demotivation in English learning. Thirdly, what are the differences among the demotivated students in terms of genders and grades in English learning? Fourthly, what measures can be taken to decrease the demotivation of students in the process of English learning in senior high school in the county of Guangxi? Both quantitative and qualitative methods are adopted to find out the answers to these questions. The main instrument of the quantitative part is the questionnaire. Questionnaire answers are input into the computer and analyzed by using SPSS 18.0. Descriptive analysis, independent sample T-test, and correlation analysis are used to analyze the results. The qualitative method is carried out by means of interview with students and teachers, in order to test, analyze, and explain the quantitative research results. The results show demotivation in English learning is a general phenomenon in senior high school among students in county of Guangxi. Demotivation in English learning exists more than half of the students from the samples. According to the analysis of the study, there are 4 main factors affecting the learning demotivation of senior high school students:learning content, learners themselves, parents or peers, and teaching material. Meanwhile, the homework, teacher, and learning environment have little association with their English learning demotivation. Through the interview, other demotivating factors are found:pressure, language foundation, and family environment. Different from the results of some previous studies, the subjects in this study thought that the influencing factors related to the teacher are weak. There indeed exist significant differences in demotivating degree between Grade 1 and 2 students, but there is no great difference between boys and girls. Whereas, for the dimension of learning content, there are some significant differences, each mean score of boys is much higher than that of girls. What's more, the demotivating degree of Grade 1 students is higher than Grade 2 students. Nevertheless, the mean values of demotivating attribution of two dimensions of Grade 2 students are higher than those of Grade 1 students. They are teaching material, and homework. Based on the questionnaires results and interviews of teachers and students, the author put forward some strategies which can help strengthen the English learning motivation of students in county of Guangxi, which can in turn improve their English language learning eventually.
