Effects of language are much influenced by learners’ attitudes. The factor of motivationis especially important. Currently there are a lot of researches doing studies on why seniorhigh students have motivation in English learning, but fewer researches have done study onwhy the students do not have motivation in English learning. However, the reality is thatmany students do not have motivation in learning English. Finding out the influencingfactors of English learning demotivation can help English teachers get known the students’pressures and difficulties in learning English precisely, and English teachers can helpstudents to solve the problem of having difficulty in learning English. It will play a big rolein improving the students’ scores and the quality of teaching.The aim of the thesis is to find out the influencing factors of demotivation in learningEnglish of senior high school students. It will give implications on decreasing Englishlearning demotivation and improving the English learning motivation. The research chooses500students in senior grade two of Hebei Huanghua Middle School as the research object.It uses the questionnaire and the interview as the research methods. It gets dada to researchthe influencing factors of demotivation from461valid questionnaires as well as interviewrecords of22students and10English teachers.The research studies the influencing factors of English learning demotivation formteachers’ factors, students’ factors, learning environment factors and parents’ factors. Theresearch findings show that the confidence in learning English and the teaching methods arethe major factors of influencing English learning demotivation. Praise and encouragementfrom English teachers are the next major influencing factors. Learning environment is afactor that should be paid more attention to especially the friend element and the classatmosphere. English learning competence can affect English learning demotivation badly.Parents’ expectations to the students’ English study should not beyond their capabilities, andthe parents should give them appropriate expectations.
