Motivation as one of the most important influencing factors of foreign language learning has been paid much attention by the second language acquisition researchers.But most researchers lay little eyes on demotivation.However,many students are confronted with demotivation in the process of English learning,and this phenomenon is particularly prevalent among senior high school students.To this end,it is necessary to explore high school students' demotivation in English learning and to put forward some countermeasures.472 sophomores from four senior high schools in Liaocheng were selected as research subjects.Questionnaire and interview were used to investigate senior high school students' demotivation.And this research aimed to answer the following three research questions:What is the situation of demotivation in English learning for high school students? What are the factors contributing to demotivation in English learning for high school students?How to help high school students to overcome demotivation in English learning? A questionnaire was designed based on D?rnyei's three-level motivational framework,and the data of questionnaire were analyzed by Excel and SPSS17.0.Then eight English teachers and 16 demotivated students were interviewed and the results were recorded.It was found that some students were demotivated in English learning,and most demotivated students were lack of intrinsic motivation.Ten influencing factors of demotivation were identified in the research,which can be ordered according to their influence: Lack of intrinsic interest,Teachers' personality and competence,Low learning ability,Nature of the course,Lack of effective learning strategy,Lack of self-confidence,Unpleasant leaning experience,Classroom teaching condition,Negative impact of partners and Nature of language.In the end,this study put forward some strategies to help high school students overcome demotivation in English learning,which mainly included cultivating learners' intrinsic interest and self-confidence,improving teachers' professional skills,establishing good relationship between teachers and students,giving students moresuggestions on learning strategies,and improving the teaching model.
