Effects of language learning are much influenced by language learners' attitudes.The factor of motivation is particularly important.A proper English learning motivation can not only help students arouse their interest in learning English,but also enable them to learn it actively.However,the reality is that quite a few students have been experiencing a decrease in motivation in English learning.Finding out the influencing factors,the educators can know about students' problems in English learning so that their pressures and difficulties in learning English can be better solved.It will play an important role in improving students' scores and learning effects.This research chooses all students in Grade 9 and five English teachers of Shanghai Meiyuan Junior Middle School as the experimental objects.It probes into the current intensity of students' English learning motivation and the influencing factors of English learning demotivation through questionnaires and interviews.It makes further analysis based on language level,learner level and learning situation level.The findings of this research show that students' interest in learning English and teachers' factors are the major factors of influencing English learning demotivation.Other factors also have a certain influence on English learning demotivation,including unpleasant learning experiences,learning strategies,parents' factors,learning abilities,confidence in learning English and peer factors,course factors,school environment and the characteristics of English.Based on these investigation results,from the perspective of students themselves,English teachers and parents,some corresponding strategies are put forward in order to avoid students' demotivation in Junior English study.The author also hopes that these strategies will be of great help to better stimulate middle school students' English learning motivation and improve their learning effects.
