Recent years, the non-continuous text appears in scholars and teachers, whichis due to the introduction to PISA, an international reading literacy assessment project.PISA is an assessment of students’ abilities of reading, mathematics and science. Duringthe assessment, reading materials include continuous text and non-continuous text. In2009, through data research on study performance of students all over the world, it wasfound that students from Shanghai performed quite different between these two kinds oftexts. The ability to comprehend continuous text reading is much higher than theability to comprehend non-continuous text. The students have some difficulties to readnon-continuous text.Ability of non-continuous text plays important role in study, work,and even survival in modern society. More and more scholars notice this problem, andhave some exploration of theory and teaching practice. A new term, non-continuous text,appears in the2011edition of the Compulsory Education Chinese Course Standard,which means that the course standard puts forward the new specifications and qualityrequirements, also raises new requirements for the students’ reading ability in the thirdand forth learning phase.From the following several aspects, this article tries to analyse students’ readingcomprehension ability of the non-continuous text:Introduction mainly involves the research background, significance of this paper,research situation, the method.The second part defines non-continuous text, and explains the necessity of researchon text reading ability of non-continuous text.The third part is a study on reading activities of the non-continuous text and includesfull explanations of the text reading objects, reading subjects and reading environment.The fourth part is the key to this paper. This part makes hierarchical arrangement forthe reading ability of non-continuous text, and the author has some ideas ofhierarchically arranging the reading ability of non-continuous text of students in thecompulsory education stage.The fifth part is about the purpose of the study. It combines the teaching practice with theoretical research, and then puts forward the corresponding teaching strategies.
