As an important part of Chinese traditional culture, classical Chinese embodied ancestors’ ideas,sentiments, and values. With its rich content and infinite potential in aesthetic education, classical Chineseplays a very important role in shaping students’ personality, enrich students’ sentiment, raise students’aesthetic ability, and some other aspects. But in the current middle school teaching of classical Chinese, thisaesthetic education role was weakened or even ignored.This thesis defined the concept of classical Chinese and aesthetic education, analyzed the relationshipbetween the two, noted the current status of middle school teaching of classical Chinese, analyzed thecauses for this status from three aspects, pointed the importance of aesthetic education in classical Chineseteaching, summarized the beauty of classical Chinese, and discussed the methods and strategies of aestheticeducation in classical Chinese teaching.Current status of Classical Chinese Teaching in middle school:1. teaching reference books werestrictly followed, while multi-view interpretation was ignored. Classical Chinese teaching is in strictaccordance with the guidance of college entrance exam and teaching reference book. The teachingobjective is singleness, the teaching process is stylized, the teaching method is simplistic, and the teachingcontent simplified.2. Prepare for the exam was taken as purpose, while personal feeling was ignored.Classical Chinese teaching is for pragmatic purpose and for exam preparation, while the students’personalized experience and growing demand were ignored.3. Textbooks were paid too much attention,while extensive reading was ignored. Teaching and learning were all around the textbooks, while readingthe extra-curricular books was ignored. This status happens mainly because social environment looks downon classical Chinese, exam-oriented education places too much pressure, and teachers’ literary quality is nothigh.Aesthetic education in classical Chinese teaching is a realistic method to achieve the goal ofcultivating people through moral excellence; is an objective requirement on establishing correct "ThreeViews" for middle school students; is an inevitable choice to realize the function of cultivating peoplethrough classical Chinese. To implement the aesthetic education, the following actions should be taken: enjoy the natural beauty classical Chinese described, feel the artistic beauty classical Chinese created, enjoythe phonology beauty classical Chinese read, figure out the character beauty classical Chinese described,appreciate the beauty of thoughts and feelings classical Chinese reflected, learn the language beautyclassical Chinese revealed.For classical Chinese aesthetic connotations, from teachers’ leading role and students’ main role, thisthesis analyzed the methods and strategies of aesthetic education in the classical teaching. Teachers shouldfocus on the aesthetic objective in classical Chinese teaching, create emotions through well-designed blurbsand variety of teaching methods, and highlight the aesthetic element of classical Chinese, to lead students’deep thoughts. Students should fully play their main role, understand and feel the beauty of classicalChinese through reading, discussion and writing.
