As the sharp development of the network technology and communication technology, virtual learning community that is built relying on the network has been more and more popular among teachers and students for its open and convenient characteristics. A literature review has been carried out to know the knowledge construction in virtual learning communities. The result of the research show that there are still a lot of problems during the application of the virtual learning community. One of the most prominent problems is that the whole knowledge construction level of most virtual learning communities remain low, staying in the stage of knowledge sharing and information exchanging. There has been some researches exploring the influence factors of knowledge construction in virtual learning communities. Some of them account for it from the perspective of instruction elements, and some account for it from the perspective of social network attributes, while rarely research account for it from the learners personality characteristics.The posts on forums and glossaries of a network learning platform, Modern Education Technology Application, which are posted by the whole students of Class0902Geography Science Department of ShanXi Normal University are the research object, with which to know the whole knowledge construction level of this virtual learning community. The relativity between learners’ knowledge construction level and their personality characteristics such as self-efficacy, learning motivation, achievement attribution methods and study styles are also been studied, in order to raise some effective strategies from the perspective of learners’ personality characteristics to promote the knowledge construction in virtual learning communities.Literature method is used to know the process of knowledge construction in virtual learning communities and its present research situation. Online Questionnaire method is used to collect the information of learners’ personality characteristics, such as self-efficacy, learning motivation, achievement attribution methods and study styles. Depending on Gunawardena’s Interaction Analysis Model, Content Analysis method is used to code the posts that are directly involved to knowledge construction on forums and glossaries. Mathematical Statistics method is used to study the relativity of the results of encoding and questionnaire survey.The result of the study show that, learners’ knowledge construction level have a significant relative with their personality characteristics, including self-efficacy, learning motivation, achievement attribution methods and learning styles. The stronger the self-efficacy, the higher the knowledge construction level. The stronger the motivation of enterprising, social orientation, personal achievement and small group orientation, the higher the knowledge construction level. The stronger the learners’ effort attribution, the higher the knowledge construction level. The stronger the learners’ situation and luck attribution, the lower the knowledge construction level. Active style, intuitive style, visual style and sequence style learners have a higer knowledge construction level.
