The Transparent Radish, the famous medium-length novel of Mo Yan, was published in 1985. The novel that is set in the rural life during the "Cultural Revolution" period, mainly talks about the black boy’s story. In this novel, the author is good at using color words to depict landscapes; using similes to make abstract things more specific; blending elegant expressions and sayings or mixing common words, dialects and slangs to create the image of characters. Among these language features is the author’s proficiency in using dialects.Dialect is a good way to maintain the distinctive local culture features. In The Transparent Radish, the Gaomi dialect is distinguished, especially in the characters’ language and narrative language. Therefore, the translation of the dialect is very significant. The translator identifies the dialect from the book which named《高密方言志》 written by Yao Zengjin and Liu Xuenong. The research of practical translation strategies and methods is designed to encourage further exploration and understanding of dialect translation. The first three chapters of the report aim to introduce the novel and author, the use of the dialect and the guiding theory; chapter four is case analysis. Under the guidance of the Translator Behavior Criticism (Zhou Lingshun,2014), "Truth-seeking" and "Utility-attaining" strategies are applied to illustrative texts in case studies. In Truth-seeking orientation, translation methods include transliteration and explanation, equivalent translation, concrete translation and commendatory and derogatory translation while in Utility-attaining orientation, translation methods include explanation with standard language, annotation, transformational translation and omission, which offer background information or explanation of the original text. Chapter five is conclusion. According to translation practice, the translator confirms the feasibility of those translation methods and transmitting in expressing the Gaomi culture. This translation practice belongs to Chinese-English translation. The translator invited the American professor MIYAHIRA MEGAN ASAKO to read the translation to improve the quality of the translation so that it will be acceptable by the target language readers.
