The Study On The Relationship Of Friendship Quality, Personality And Self-esteem Among The Left-behind Children

As the phenomenon of the young labor’s flow has occurred gradually because of the continuous advancement of modernization in our country, a large amount of the left-behind children whose psychological development has been studied by many researchers seriously, have emerged.The special environment that the left-behind children have lived has an adverse effects on their self-esteem and personality. Good peer relationship has certain compensation for lack of their emotion and has positive effect on the healthy development of their personality, self-esteem, psychological condition. The left-behind children of primary and middle school from Minhe County of Qinghai Province has been taken as the subjects and questionnaire survey has been taken in this study. The left-behind children’s development of friendship quality,personality, self- esteem and the interrelation of these variables have been studied. in the research. The conclusions are as follows.(1)The analysis on gender difference for the left-behind children’s friendship quality, personality, self-esteem: at the dimension of trust and support of friendship quality(p<0.01),the girls’ scores is significantly higher than the boy’s at the primary school, at the dimension of intimacy and intimate communication of that(p<0.05),the girls’ scores is significantly higher than the boy’s at the senior high school; at the three dimensions of Psychoticism(p<0.001), Neuroticism(p<0.05), Lie(p<0.01)of personality, the girls’ scores is significantly higher than the boy’s at the senior high school; as the self-esteem(p<0.05),the boys’ scores is significantly higher than the girls’ s at the senior high school.(2)The analysis on grade difference for the left-behind children’s friendship quality, personality, self-esteem: at the four dimensions of trust and support( p<0.01),confirm value( p<0.05),intimacy and intimate communication(p<0.01),conflict and betray(p<0.001),the scores of the students from the seniorhigh school is significantly higher than the students’ from the primary school, at the dimension of conflict and betray, the scores of the students in Grade 3 from the senior high school is significantly higher than the students’ in Grade 3 from the school(p<0.05);at the two dimensions of Psychoticism(p<0.01),Extroversion-Introversion( p<0.05) of personality, the scores of the students from the primary school is significantly higher than the students’ from the senior high school, at the dimension of Lie(p<0.05),the scores of the students from the senior high school is significantly higher than the students’ from the primary school; as the self-esteem, the scores of the students from the senior high school is significantly higher than the students’ from the primary school( p<0.001),and the scores of the students from primary grade is significantly higher than the high grade at primary school(p<0.05).(3)The analysis on difference of different self-esteem level for the left-behind children’s friendship quality, personality: for the primary school, at the dimension of Neuroticism of personality, the scores of students of low self-esteem and middle self-esteem is significantly higher than the students’ at high self-esteem level; for the senior high school, at the two dimensions of Psychoticism, Neuroticism of personality,the scores of students of low self-esteem is significantly higher than the students’ at high self-esteem level, at the two dimensions of Extroversion- Introversion and Lie,the scores of students of high self-esteem is significantly higher than the students’ at low self-esteem level.(4)The correlation analysis for the left-behind children’s friendship quality,personality and self-esteem: for the left-behind children at primary school, there is significant negative correlation between the dimension of trust and support of friendship quality and the dimension of Psychoticism of personality(p<0.05),and the dimension of conflict and betray has positive correlation with the dimension of Psychoticism(p<0.01),the two dimensions of Extroversion-Introversion and Lie all have significant positive correlation with self-esteem, and the dimension of Neuroticism has significant negative correlation with self-esteem; for the left-behind children at senior high school, there is significant negative correlation between the two dimensions of Psychoticism and Neuroticism and self-esteem(p<0.01),and the two dimensions of Extroversion- Introversion and Lie all have significant positive correlation with self-esteem(p<0.01).(5)The regression analysis for the left-behind children’s friendship quality,personality and self-esteem: for the left-behind children at primary school, thedimension of trust and support of friendship quality has significantly negative predictive effect on the dimension of Psychoticism of personality, the dimension of conflict and betray has significantly positive predictive effect on the dimension of Psychoticism of personality, at the same time, the self-esteem has been predicted negatively by the dimension of Neuroticism, and the self-esteem has been predicted positively by the dimension of Extroversion-Introversion; for the left-behind children at senior high school, the dimension of intimacy and intimate communication of friendship quality has significantly negative predictive effect on the dimension of Extroversion-Introversion, the self-esteem has been predicted positively by the dimension of Extroversion- Introversion and predicted negatively by the dimension of Neuroticism.(6)The mediation analysis for the left-behind children’s personality: for the whole left-behind children, the dimension of Psychoticism of personality has significantly full mediation effect between the dimension of trust and support of friendship quality and self-esteem; for the male left-behind children, the dimension of Psychoticism of personality has significantly partial mediation effect between the dimension of intimacy and intimate communication and self-esteem.
