A Report On The Interpreting For Higher People’s Court Of Guangdong Province

In recent years, with China’s economic development and the deepening of the state policy of reform and opening up, there are more and more aliens coming to China. As the pioneering place of reform and opening up, Guangdong Province with rapid development, has attracted an increasing number of people outside China. Some of them are doing illegal business like drug smuggling. Because of the language barrier, the investigating and the procuratorate need an interpreter when they investigate the case and interrogate the suspect or the defendant. The author wrote this report based on two interpreting tasks for Higher People’s Court of Guangdong Province.First, this report introduced the background, clients and target audience of the interpreting. Second, it described the preparation work, including collecting background knowledge, making terminology, drawing up plans and preparing emergency precautions. Then, by describing the interpreting process and transcribing records, the author analyzed the difficulties which encountered in the interpreting and put forward his solutions, and attached the feedback from the clients and the interpreter himself. Last, the author analyzed the interpreting strategies.Through presenting and analyzing the cases from the interpreting, the author hopes this report could benefit future interrogation interpreting, improve the efficiency of interrogation and the accuracy of interpreting.
