A Report On Interrogation Interpreting Practice In Xinchengzi Police Station

With the rapid development of Chinese economy and deepening of reform and opening up,more and more foreigners are willing to come to China.The number of crimes is rising along the way.Therefore,interrogation interpreting,as a bridge for communication between interrogators and suspects,is of great significance.However,the researches in the field of interrogation interpreting are comparatively rare.This report,which is based on the interrogation interpreting practice in Xinchengzi police station,intends to help other interpreters to achieve a better performance in the future interrogation interpreting.Entrusted by the Division of Exit-Entry Administration of Public Security Bureau of Shenyang,theauthor accompanied the police to Xinchengzi Police Station and provided interrogation interpreting service for them.During the interpreting,the author had three major problems,including communication barriers,a lack of proper terms,and redundancy.Hence,the author also mentions the causes of those problems.The interpretive theory,which demonstrates the triangular model,namely,“comprehension” period,“deverbalization” period and the “reproduction” period,and emphasizes the importance of interpreting the main meaning,provides feasible schemes for the author to solve those problems.Therefore,based on the triangular model and characteristics of interrogation interpreting,some coping strategies under the guidance of interpretive theory,such as semantic explanation,addition,and sentence reconstruction are also employed in this interpreting practice.By adopting these coping strategies,the author can express the main idea of the speech to make the interrogation run smoothly and effectively.The problems occurred during the interpreting practice and the coping strategies to solve these problems are the research focuses of this practice report.
