| Based on the author’s interpreting practices at the Anti-smuggling Bureau of Guangzhou Customs,the report aims at analyzing the roles of interpreters in interrogation interpreting.Court interpreting has always been a focus of the interpreting community;however,as one of its branch,interrogation interpreting fails to receive due attention.Therefore,the author attempted to probe into interrogation interpreting in the report.The report covers every step of an interpreting task,including accepting the task,pre-task preparation,on-site interpreting and post-task assessment.Besides introducing the background of the task,the entrusting party of the task and the interpreter herself,the report also describes the features of the task in the task description part.In addition,the report examines the challenges the author met in her task and relevant strategies.The role of interpreters in interrogation interpreting is highlighted in the report.The author found that she not only acted as a conduit,a controller in interrogations but sometimes an interrogator.By analyzing some typical cases in interrogation interpreting,the author hopes future interpreters will have a better understanding of their positive roles in interrogation interpreting.The author believes interpreters need to play an active role in the interrogation process so they can deal with emergencies and facilitate the communication between the two parties. |
