| “Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shaoâ€seem like a pair structure,which is same and has opposite meaning, the meaning and grammatical function should be symmetrical, but in fact, it’s not. The overseas students often made mistake when communicating. This paper is trying to analyze the symmetry and asymmetry of“Manyâ€and“fewâ€,and explain the reason. According to the analysis of the language, the classification of the biased errors, the disadvantage of the textbooks, give some advice to teaching Chinese as a second language.First, analyzing the the symmetry and asymmetry of the meaning. After collecting and organizing the corpus,combining the researches,concluded the meaning of “Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shaoâ€.“Hen Duoâ€indicate large quantities and big difference when comparing.“Hen Shaoâ€indicate small quantities and small frequency. When they indicate quantity, “Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shao†have a certain symmetry. When “Hen Duoâ€indicate big difference when comparing,“Hen Shaoâ€indicate small frequency, they are completely asymmetric.Secondly, combining the asymmetry of the meaning,comparing the grammar function with “Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shaoâ€.Finding out that because when they indicate quantity, “Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shaoâ€have a certain symmetry, “Hen Duoâ€and “ Hen Shao †can be a predicate, adverbial, complement for a verb in sentences.Cause the asymmetry of the meaning, they are asymmetric when they be a subject, Object, attributive, complement for adjective, adverbial modifier. “ Hen Duoâ€and“Hen Shaoâ€are not only totally asymmetric in meaning, but also in grammar function.Last, after collecting, collating, classifying, analyzing the bias errors of overseas students and give the reason, investigating the paraphrase, explanation of grammar,exercises of the textbooks, give some effective recommendations to teaching Chinese as a second language. |
