Report On A Simulated Interpreting For Hakka Culture Promotion

Hakka culture is an important part of the Han culture of Chinese civilization. As China’s economy rises sharply, Chinese culture is gradually starting to spread around the world, so is the Hakka culture. This simulated interpreting chooses two representative videos about Hakka culture. The cultural promotion videos include every aspect of culture, such as food, mountain song, humanity, funeral, wedding, dialect and so on, which challenges the language foundation of the interpreter on a full-scale way. Generally speaking, the chosen materials could test the language foundation, psychological quality, strain capacity and encyclopedic knowledge of the interpreter.Based on the evaluation of the whole practice interpreting from the audience and combined with their feedbacks and the audio transcript, the author analyzes the problems occurred in the performance with more cases, such as misinterpreting, scattering, vagueness, logical mess, Chinglish expression, failure of using the predicted words, and finds out reasons and gives some solutions to each problem. Meanwhile, the writer describes how to deal with Chinese parallelism, interpreting of mountain song, folk adage and Chinese idioms, as well as culture-loaded words. Finally, according to the simulated interpreting, the author points out the advantage and the limitations, as well as professional requirements for interpreters.Finally, according to the mass case study examples, the author finds out that there are many problems in the simulated interpreting. There are reasons of the material itself and some other objective ones. Based on these reasons and the author’s personal experience, the paper points out the merits and the limitations of this simulated interpreting; in addition, the paper puts forward some professional requirements for interpreters.
