A Reflective Research Report On The Liaison Interpretation Of"China(Jilin)-europe, America And Oceania Business Meeting"

With the rapid development of our country’s economy and the extension ofcross-cultural communication with the other nations, interpreters are playing a moreand more important role. As a MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting) student, Iwas greatly honored to attend the China(Jilin)-Europe, America and Oceania BusinessMeeting as a volunteer interpreter. My task was to interpret for Mr. Chen Zhenhu, thedeputy mayor of Siping City, Jilin Province, and Mr. Szymon, a Senior Expert of theDepartment of Sustainable Development in Poland and Mr. Thomas, a Canadianbusinessman.This thesis is a reflective report based on the analysis of the transcript of thisinterpreting practice, in which I point out the merits and demerits of my performanceas well as respective solutions for those demerits. The goal of this reflective report isto summarize instructional suggestions to improve my later interpreting.This thesis includes four chapters apart from Introduction and Conclusion.Chapter1covers the background and arrangement of the business meeting, as well asmy preparation for the interpreting task. Chapter2expends the analysis of thetranscript, which aims at probing how the speakers influence on my interpretingperformance at both linguistic level and stylistic level. Chapter3is the qualityevaluation of my interpreting performance which focuses on the merits, demerits andthe causes of deficiencies and the evaluation standards are offered by the InternationalAssociation of Conference Interpreters. Chapter4brings about some respectiveadvice for better performance of my interpreting practice.
