A Practice Report Of Liaison Interpreting From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

Now China has become the second largest economy in the world.With China’s status rising in the international arena,foreign exchanges have been increasing and demand for business liaison interpreters has been rising accordingly.However,business situation getting more complicated,liaison interpreters may face greater anxiety and pressure and sometimes even one mistake caused by interpreters may fail the cooperation opportunities for these enterprises.In this case,flexible interpreting skills should be applied to fulfilling the interpreting task assigned by the entrusting party.This paper is a practice report of liaison interpreting,which was based on the interpreting task conducted by the author at the Second China-Germany SME Conference in 2016.Guided by the skopos theory,the author particularly studies and analyses the interpreting skills,including amplification,omission and paraphrasing,applied in the SME match-making conference.In addition,the author also demonstrates how to solve some tricky problems encountered during the task.It is hoped that this report could help those new business liaison interpreters to choose effective interpreting skills and devote to the teaching and research of liaison interpreting as well as interpreting quality control.
