Report On Liaison Interpreting For Yantai Kunyu Mountain Martial Arts Academy

During the internship in Kunyu Mountain Martial Arts Academy,the author acted as an interpreter for masters and students in the academy.Class interpreting owns a huge percentage in the practice.Therefore,the report concentrates on the dialogue interpreting in martial arts classes.By reviewing and analyzing the whole interpreting process,the author summarizes the problems which appeared during the whole process,and suggests some corresponding strategies.This report includes four chapters.Chapter One is task description,including task background and requirements of clients.Chapter Two is process description,which mainly discusses liaison interpreting,pre-interpreting preparation and interpreting process.Chapter Three is case study.Based on problems and difficulties appeared during the interpreting process,analysis and reflection are made in terms of three aspects: interpreter's subjectivity consciousness,cultural differences and quality control of liaison interpreting on site.Chapter Four summarizes this interpreting practice and puts forward enlightenment for future study and practice.From the above descriptions and analysis,the author puts forward the following views: First,according to the theory of interpreters' subjectivity consciousness proposed by Ren Wen,interpreters should bear the subjectivity consciousness in mind during interpreting practice.Interpreters can help both parties obtain the goal of communication by controlling turn or helping the weaker side in the communication.Second,the interpreter is the bridge in cross-cultural communication.Therefore,interpreters could act as the gate-keeper and cultural mediator in order to reduce the negative effect that cultural differences bring.Third,the complicated working conditions of interpreters are very complicated,like noisy condition,fast speed of delivery and density of information.Hence,interpreters should take coping measures to control the quality of interpreting.For example,interpreters should improve the ability of concentration,hearing and distinguishing to reduce the impact of noisy environment on quality of interpreting;for fast speed delivery or density of information,interpreters can use corresponding strategies like remembering key words to release memory burden,and confirming with the speaker or summarizing the main idea of the source language to ensure the fluency and accuracy of the target language.
