The measure word can be classified as nominal measure words, verbal measure words and time words. There is no doubt that a verbal measure word after the predicate will serve as complement. But the syntactic function of a nominal measure word or a time word after the predicate needs to be considered. I will use the method of semantic orientation analysis, syntax analysis, transformation analysis and the classification of verbs to probe into the problem if the nominal measure word or the time word after the predicate serves as complement or object.Chapter one mainly introduces the significance of this topic, the related research and the research status. It also points out the research methods and corpus sources.Chapter two examines the situation when the predicate is an adjective. According to the different types of the measure word, there are different results.Chapter three examines the situation when the predicate is a verb. The situation is very complicate. It requires special attention to get the real meaning of the sentence and the inner relations of the verb and the measure word.Chapter four concludes the thesis and summarizes the main point. It points out the possible area of further research on this topic.
