A Retrospective Practice Report On Simulated C-E CI Of The Speech Presented By Tian Yuan In2013Yabuli China Entrepreneurs Forum

With the deepening of the globalization and the dramatic economic developmentover the last thirty years, China has become one of the most influential powers in theworld and joined in more extensive international communication and exchange. Moreand more people in the world are showing their increasing interests in China’sdevelopment. Therefore, Chinese to English consecutive interpreting (hereinafterreferred to as C-E CI) as one of interpretation types will play crucial role in China’sgoing-out. This simulated C-E CI practice takes Tian Yuan’s speech presented in2013Yabuli China Entrepreneurs summer summit as the material. Founded in November2000, Yabuli China Entrepreneurs forum, the competing arena of business and culturalideas, has gathered the Chinese business giants and famous foreign entrepreneursfrom nearly all industries. Tian Yuan, the founder of China Entrepreneurs Forum oncesaid,“its attractiveness is not from the official background and luxurious facilities butconstantly absorbs Davos experiences to satisfy the entrepreneurs’ aspiration formutual communication while presenting its cultural characteristics which covers thespirits of fair,freedom and sincerity (China Entrepreneurs,2002)”.Tian Yuan’s speech, entitled “中国企业国际化没有真正开始(TheInternationalization of Chinese Enterprises Has not Really Started)” was presented inChinese with widely involved fields such as real estate, banking, manufacture andpetrochemical engineering and so on. The retrospective practice excavates andanalyzes the problems arising in the process of simulated C-E CI practice under theguidance of The Interpretive Theory. Some specific examples are analyzed by theauthor to explore the effects of background knowledge, mental state of the interpreterand consecutive interpreting principles on the interpreting quality and finally somefeasible consecutive interpreting countermeasures are put forward, such as omission,addition, free translation, conversion and so on.
