| This project is a simulated consecutive interpreting of "Reimagining Universities,Post-Covid",an education forum,which is expected to shed light on the future development of higher education against the backdrop of COVID-19.As interpreters shoulder the responsibility of "taking in"and"sending out",it is of great significance to extract and spread the essence of the source language.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the interpreter analyzes the difficulties and solutions of this interpreting practice.According to Skopos theory,the receiver is at the core of the whole activity of interpreting.Three essential rules,Skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,are also proposed in this theory.Before interpreting,the interpreter makes full preparations for this projects in terms of the background information and glossary.During the process of interpreting,the interpreter encounters four difficulties,which concern semantic redundancy,idioms,long and complex sentences and information implicitness.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the interpreter adopts four interpreting techniques:omission,free interpreting,sentence restructuring,and amplification to solve these difficulties correspondently.These four techniques are generated from the three rules of Skopos theory.After applying these tactics to the interpreting practice,the interpreting quality is significantly improved and the target text becomes clearer and more concise.At the end of this report,the author mainly concludes the findings and makes reflections for interpreters to cope with similar tasks in the future.Through the practice of this simulated intepreting and in-depth analysis of this practice,it enables the author to realize the weak points in the interpreting process.After analyzing and reflecting,the author can address these issues pertinently.The importance of this project lies in providing valuable and practical advice for other interpreters who will conduct interpreting of the similar kind in the future.Besides,the proficiency and accuracy of the interpreter’s delivery are expected to improve because of this project. |
