This is a translation report on the first two chapters of the book The Idea Factory:Bell Labs and the Great Age of American Innovation. The two chapters include:Oil Drops; West to East. They mainly talk about several important people in the Bell Lab who made a difference to the telecommunication industry. The aim of translating this book is to give more information to people who are interested in the development of tech companies. The author of this translation report uses the Skopos theory as the framework of the research of this report.This report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction. In the second chapter, the author describes the translation task and the translating process, including preparation, translation process and post-translation issues. The third chapter points out the theoretical basis for this report is the Skopos theory, and the theory itself together with its development is described in this part, as well as its guidance and its practical value towards the translation of The Idea Factory. The fourth chapter uses examples, with different translation methods such as:omission and division and restructuring, to illustrate the author’s points. The fifth chapter is the conclusion part. The paper summarizes the importance of cooperation and the proof-reading process after translation, as well as the author’s personal translation experience. Summarizing lessons learned in the translation process can help the translator do a better job in the future, so the author can continue to advance in practice. Hopefully other translators can benefit from this essay.
