This is a translation report on What I Told My Daughter——Lessons From Leaders on RAISING the Next Generation of Empowered Women, written by the American C BS entertainment company president N ina Tassler. The author translated the first ten chapters. The purposes of this translation report are: first,to study the guiding significance of the Skopos Theory in the process of translation practice;second,to be familiar with the whole process of translation and to summarize the translation strategies and methods so that the author will be equipped with more translation skills in the future;third,to examine the difficulties and solutions during the translation practice and hope to shed light on the later translation practices. In the process of translation practice,it is an unavoidable problem for the translator to choose the appropriate translation methods and strategies.Skopos theory puts forward that the ultimate purpose determines the methods and strategies used during the translation process, which provides guidance for the the translation. For a long time,Chinese and foreign scholars argue that skopos theory is suitable for the purpose of strong application of text, such as advertising, brochures.Does the skopos theory shed light on the expressive texts? This paper analyzes the translation practice of this type of texts and probes into the guiding significance of Skopos Theory in the translation practice.During the translation practice, the author takes the Skopos theory, including the skopos rule, the coherence rule and the fidelity rule as the theoretical guidance. In this translation practice report, the author cites examples according to the words translation and sentence translation. The author then summarizes the trans lation methods and strategies applied under the guidance of the Skopos Theory, such as literal translation, free translation and omission. In addition, the author also maintains that the Skopos Theory has the guiding significance in the process of transla tion practice.
