Note-assisted Explicitation Of Logic Relations

The task in this practice report is to do consecutive inte rpretation for an episode of Talk to the Great in which Ma Yun was interviewed and study the explicitation of logic relations in Chinese-English consecutive interpretation. The writer classified the explicitation of logic relations into grammar explicitation of logic relations and semantic explicitation of logic relations. Solutions to each kind were put forward in combination with notes. They are adding cohesive word in logic relations, explicitation by means of reconstruction, attributive clause and so on, semantic explicitation of logic relations. Report was written after practice.There is a huge difference in sentence structures between English and C hinese. Chinese is characterized by parataxis while English is characterized by hypotaxis. Therefore, logic relations in C hinese sentences are mostly hidden while in English, they are mostly explicit. In C hinese to English interpretation, explicitation strategy should be properly used to make the hidden logic relations in C hinese sentences more explicit so that English audience could better understand the speech.The innovation in report was the combination of notes and the process of listening and analysis during interpretation. Notes were provided in case analysis as demonstration of their importance. As a crucial link in interpretation, notes can motivate interpreters’ ability to analyze. If notes can mark the hidden logic relations and give a hint to interpreters, it will be eas ier for interpreters to transform hidden logic relations to explicit logic relations. Thus, the quality of interpretation can be greatly improved.
