| Explicitation refers to the process of making what remains implicit in the source language explicit in the target language whereas cohesion serves as a way to realize explicitation.Since Chinese is a paratactic language and lacks identifiers of cohesive devices, the cohesive relationship needs to be manifested in the translation process. However, most studies on cohesion focus on translation, and few are conducted in consecutive interpretations. The outbreak of the COVID-19 draws our attention to the transformation of health and medical achievements.China’s achievements in medical innovation need to go global to promote its development so interpretation acts as the bridge for communication.Guided by Hasan and Halliday’s cohesion theory and Blum-Kulka’s explicitation hypothesis, this report uses Yicai Salon: Global Healthcare Innovation and Regional Collaborative Practice as the material to explore the translation techniques and factors to achieve cohesive explicitation. The report found that addition, division, shifting, and repetition are mostly used as translation techniques.Ambiguous reference of pronouns, implicit logical relationships, ellipsis, and interpreters are factors that affect cohesive explicitation. The study of cohesive explicitation in the consecutive interpretation can help translators better understand the differences between Chinese and English, enhance the study of key cohesive devices, and make the translation more coherent and natural based on the accuracy of the translation.Based on case analysis, the report analyzes the devices of cohesive explicitation and discusses the selection of appropriate translation techniques to achieve cohesive explicitation at the discourse level, which has significant meaning for the consecutive interpretation practice. |
