2021 Heilongjiang University "Chinese Bridge" Chinese-English Consecutive Interpretation Practice Report

In 2021,the author participated in “Chinese Bridge” Program organized by Heilongjiang University.Based on Chinese-English consecutive interpretation,the author summarizes some problems encountered at the interpretation,mainly including illogical interpretation,improper use of literal translation as well as number interpretation.The main reasons for above three interpretation problems are incapability to summarize key information,misunderstandings of idioms and lower numerical sensitivity.Through self-evaluation and reflection,some interpretation strategies are proposed such as reconstructing the logic,revealing implicit logic,decoding and reconstructing the source language,liberal translation of cultural connotation,more conversion exercises between Chinese and English numbers,etc,which could improve the accuracy and authenticity of target language.This report aims to improve the interpretation quality,logical thinking as well as ability of summary via concrete and feasible methods.It is hoped that the experience in this interpretation could lay a solid foundation for the further interpretation and provide some reference for interpreters who engage in the related interpretation of Chinese culture.
