Thailand has a long history of Chinese education. Previously, Chinese courses were generally open only to Chinese schools, but now almost every school offers Chinese courses, and there is a rapid development of Chinese teaching in Thailand, achieving striking results. However, in the course of the development of Chinese language education in Thailand, there are some problems to be solved, such as:a shortage of textbooks, weak teachers, the teaching ability of teachers and so on. Among them, the lack of Chinese language teachers is the main factor restricting the development of Chinese in Thailand. Although, every year teachers from China volunteer to teach in Thailand, but highly mobility, and the unfair distribution of has posed a serious challenge. To solve the problem of the lack of Chinese language teachers, there first, is a need to increase the standards of local Chinese teachers. Thus, the training of local Chinese language teachers is particularly important. Currently, Thailand has realized the importance of this and the education department has begun to strengthen the training of local Chinese teachers. The focus of my thesis would be on the local Chinese teachers in Bangkok, Thailand. My research methods are as follows, first reading the relevant materials through literature research, understanding the history and how teaching Chinese is relative in Thailand. After the completion of the preliminary aspects of data compilation, through questionnaires and individual interviews of the basic quality of the local Chinese language teachers in Thailand, I will analyze the effect of teacher training, and offer other suggestions for future improvements. This thesis consists of five sections. The first section mainly elaborates my research background and reasons, purpose and significance of this topic along with my research methods. The second section, through literature and research papers, summarizes the situation of the training of Chinese teachers in Thailand. The third section includes the analysis of the questionnaire and on the foundation of this, recommendations for the future conduction of teacher training sessions. The fourth section of this thesis shows some of the problems found in the investigation process, my own proposals, namely, before the training to understand the needs of trainees, and the effects after the training, how there should be segregation according to teachers’abilities and the differentiation of instruction pertaining to the levels of Chinese these teachers teach. The fifth section of this thesis would be my conclusion and the existing shortcomings of this thesis.
