In recent years, Chinese language teaching is in the ascent duration in Thailand. In the document To Promote Chinese Teaching, Improve National Competitiveness Strategy, the Thai government explicitly points out that in the Buddhist calendar year of2555, which means the year2012, all elementary and high schools have to establish Chinese language curriculum. Up to the present, Thailand has already had a lot of Chinese language teachers who are native Thai people. In order to promote the Chinese in Thailand’s long-term development, it is necessary to keep abreast of new developments about these native teachers’Chinese knowledge structure and their wills to participate in the Chinese training courses.This study selects the most representative province in the southern Thailand---rabi province to investigate the Thai native Chinese teachers’ quality of teaching Chinese, their knowledge structure of Chinese language, and their wills to participate in the training on improving Chinese ability and Chinese teaching. In order to help the local Thai-Chinese teachers’ on-the-job training in the next few years, based on the results of the above research, this thesis will propose a Chinese teacher training program which is supposed to be applicable and feasible for these Thai native Chinese teachers in Krabi province as well as teachers who are under the similar conditions in other provinces of southern Thailand. At the same time, to help the sustainable development of Chinese language education in southern Thailand, this study will also present some opinions and suggestions on how to improve those teachers’Chinese professional quality in a primary and elementary school level.Firstly, this thesis gets the information about the Chinese teaching history and Chinese teaching conditions in high schools in whole Thailand through related materials. Secondly, the study gets the latest dynamic information about Chinese teaching and Thai native Chinese teachers through the relevant documents from Thai government and the related files from Krabi province.And then, by the way of questionnaire survey through individual conversation and telephone interviews, also supplemented by the way of the empirical data collected, the author gets the necessary information for this study. At the same time, the author refers to the data of Chinese teaching development conditions in recent years and the growth number of Thai native Chinese teachers in Krabi province, this thesis can finds out the same and individual characteristics about the Thai local Chinese teachers in southern Thailand. Finally, this paper obtained the conclusion about the Chinese training of native teachers in Krabi province. The questionnaire in this thesis is based on The Standards for International Chinese Teachers issued by Chinese Hanban (Confucius Central Institute). Combining the questionnaire feedback, the thesis strives to find some meaningful experience and methods for the on-the-job Chinese training of Thai native teachers. |
