| This is a translation report based on the translation of two short fictions of The Home Girls, which was written by the famous Australian female writer Olga · Masters. The author gives a vivid depiction that ordinary people lived in an unordinary world to explore the life and social conditions as well as the people’s mental activities in Australia after the Second World War.With the rapid development of economic globalization, fiction translation plays an increasingly significant role in intercultural communication. As one of a classic work about Australian culture after The Second World War, The Home Girls and its translation provide an important way for Chinese and Australian in cross-culture communication. The translator selected The Rages of Mrs. Torrens and Leaving Home from the Home Girls as translation texts. This report mainly introduces the analysis of the translation difficulties and the application of the translation methods which are the keys of the translation report.This translation report mainly analyzes the translation difficulties of words collocations, the personalized words and also long sentences encountered in this translation process. Focusing on these translation difficulties, the translation report employs varieties of translation methods, including splitting-off; paraphrase and translating into idioms; division, combination and shifting; amplification, omission and repetition, omitting the structures and selecting the meaning as well as comprehensive translation method.At last this report gives a brief analysis about the translation experience and understanding after the translation practice, as well as the inadequacies existing in the translation process.It is hoped that by this translation report, the translator could acquire translation experience and translation skills as well as the intercultural communication awareness to realize the improvement of the personal translation capabilities. |
