This is a translation practice report for Call Me Gene, which introduces gene andbelongs to the field of biotechnology, and focuses on the knowledge o f gene sequences, cellcycle, heredity, the latest DNA technology used in agriculture and forensic medicine. Thebook describes the gene’s world by tone of first person, which is full of fun.The report is divided into four parts. The first part is task description, in which thetranslator briefly describes and analyzes the target audience of the source language andinformation of author with the purpose of selecting translation methods and strategies. Thesecond part is process description, which contains select translation tools, build glossary andlook up technical terms, and proofreading; the translator is guided by Skopostheorie, andanalyzes the characteristics of science text translation. The third part is case study, thetranslator analyzes the difficulties and skills of words and sentence translation. The translatorchooses the technique of amplification and omission in translation, and so on. In the fourthpart, a conclusion of this translation report is drawn which includes the experience andlessons drawn from this report.The translator realizes the complexity of translation and understands that a qualifiedtranslator must have the ability to master the source language and target language and itsrespective culture. In addition, the comprehensive quality of translator is necessary fortranslation.
